We will soon be providing simple and affordable hosting services and free hosting for qualifying sites. Initially there will be two types of accounts offered: e-mail only and full user. E-mail only accounts will only be able to access e-mail through their user account, whether through the web interface or e-mail client software. Full user accounts will give the user a home directory on our Darwin/Mac OS X servers which they can access through ssh, sftp, or WebDAV to set up a web site and access e-mail, newsgroups, irc channels, the world wide web, etc., through our collection of unix command-line applications.
Sites requesting free hosting must provide free Classic Mac content without banner or pop-up ads and must pass an evaluation by our staff.
Eventually we'd like to also provide server collocation services.
One of our goals is to eventually provide environmentally friendly hosting & collocation services. We are already on our way to being environmentally friendly by reusing older computers and by conserving some electricity by using PowerPC based (and EnergyStar compliant) Macintosh computers for our servers, but this is practically insignificant. We'd like to see a combination of wind, water, and solar power used to further reduce the amount of electricity we obtain from fossil fuel and fission powered power plants. Not only does this provide better use of resources for our planet, but it also will allow us to provide even cheaper hosting by practically eliminating the cost of powering our servers and yours.
